New-generation thermoelectric materials now have a new method for optimizing their performance, thanks to the efforts of researchers at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).

As a young research-oriented university, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has encouraged its faculty to explore an entrepreneurial path. On March 10, a delegation led by Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee Secretary Wang Weizhong and Mayor Chen Rugui visited Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).

SUSTech has donated six hundred thousand anti-fog wipes in one thousand containers and twenty thousand spray bottles of anti-fog wipes. The anti-fog disinfectant wipes and spray are the results of research by Associate Professor Sun Dazhi from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE).

Associate Professor Sun Dazhi from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) led his research group to develop an anti-fog disinfectant wipe suitable for goggles rapidly. These simple wet wipes ensure that the goggle lens remains fog-free for at least twenty-four hours while being non-toxic to the human eyes and effective at killing bacteria. These wipes ensure clean equipment throughout the entire day and make it easier for our health care workers in the battle against Covid-19.

On December 3, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) welcomed Sun Licheng, a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), to campus. He gave the 246th lecture in the SUSTech Lecture Series on the topic of “Solar Energy Conversion and Water Splitting Catalysis: From Natural to Artificial Photosynthesis.”

Over the weekend, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was the host venue for the first meeting of the Undergraduate Teaching Steering Committee of Materials Science for the universities in Guangdong. SUSTech Acting Vice President Zhang Dongxiao attended the meeting with 19 members from universities and businesses across Guangdong Province.

The first cohort of fifty Xplorer Prize winners was awarded after four months of rigorous analysis. Two of those fifty Xplorer Prize winners were Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Professor Jiang Xingyu (Department of Biomedical Engineering) and Associate Professor Liu Weishu (Materials Science and Engineering). Both young scientists stood out from over one thousand applicants for their cutting-edge interdisciplinary research, in energy & environmental protection respectively. They were the only winners in Shenzhen.

One of the unique aspects of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) is its six residential colleges, which house over four thousand undergraduate students. These residential colleges have become a critical component for developing the future leaders of the new era, under SUSTech’s mission of reform and innovation of higher education in China.

Over the weekend, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Associate Professor Li Guixin from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) was honored with one of the 2019 Outstanding Young Scholars Awards from the Qiu Shi Science and Technologies Foundation.
