Introduction
The Global Scientist Interdisciplinary Forum at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) is an important conference for talent recruitment. It aims to provide a platform for academic exchanges among young scholars at home and abroad, to promote interdisciplinary and academic innovation, and discuss the approach for the construction of world-class universities and disciplines. Through the recruitment of world-class talents, we plan to build SUSTech into a high-level research university with unique characteristics in the world.
In the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, We are interested in candidates with expertise in the broad areas of materials science and engineering, including but not limited to, theoretical and computational materials science, aerospace materials, energy materials, information (electronic, optical and magnetic) materials, biomaterials, and advanced materials manufacturing and characterizations. Applicants are expected to manage an independent research program in their fields and be committed to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Qualifications for Applicants
(a) Under age of 40 （born after 1 January 1979）;
(b) Doctoral degree obtained from internationally renowned universities and institutes; or Ph.D. degrees from Chinese universities with more than 3 years of working abroad, with achievements in related fields or good potential for further development; scholars with academic influence in the related field.
SUSTech conducts teaching in English. We welcome applicants from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Travel and Accommodation
(a) Free accommodation and lodging will be provided;
(b) Travels: All invited participants need to purchase their own tickets (economy class). We will provide travel reimbursement for the actual cost of tickets between 12/20/2018-01/20/2019 (maximum CNY 12,000 per person).

Salary and Benefits
We offer internationally competitive salaries and benefits. We also provide ample start-up resources for equipment and personnel. Qualified candidates will receive additional support from the national, provincial, and municipal governments.
Annual salary plus year-end bonus amounts to over 100K USD for qualified candidates. In addition, we provide sign-up bonus of around 400K USD. The sign-up bonus is tax free, and will be distributed in five yearly installments.
We provide 150 square meter lab and office space for each faculty member. For qualified candidates, we provide a start-up fund of 1.1M (theoretical) – 1.7M (experimental) USD. The exact dollar amount depends on the currency exchange rate. In addition, the university provides: (1) scholarships for one new PhD student and one new MS student every year; (2) 24K USD salary for each postdoc up to a total of two postdocs per PI. Partial fundings for staff scientists, postdocs, and students are available from various sources and programs.
SUSTech has first-class shared-user research facilities, including materials characterization center, micro- and nanofabrication center, electron microscope imaging center, biosciences center, machine shop, supercomputing center, and more. All facilities can be accessed with discounted user fees.
Qualified candidates will enjoy all compensations and insurances required by China’s laws.
For all qualified candidates, SUSTech will assist in children’s enrollment in local schools and job placement for spouses.
For foreign nationals, the university will assist in obtaining work visas and residency permits.

Department of Materials Science and Engineering
The MSE department at SUSTech engages in a broadscope of advanced materials research, including energy materials, organic andinorganic electronics, biomaterials, polymer composites, nanomaterials, micro-and nanofabrication, powder injection molding, as well as additivemanufacturing. The development of the MSE program addresses three areas: thefrontiers of materials research; the national strategic development plan inmaterials area; and the R&D needs of the local industries in the PearlRiver Delta and Shenzhen municipality. The department aims to achieveleadership in both knowledge discovery and technology transfer.
In 2018, Essential Science Indicators (ESI) rank the materials research at SUSTech among the top 1% in the world.
