Last week, two scientists from Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) were recognized as Global Highly Cited Researchers in 2018, in a ceremony held at Shenzhen University.

The first metallographic competition of the Department of Material Science and Engineering was successfully accomplished in Conference Room 408 of the Second Scientific Research Building on April 21, 2019.

The understanding of grain boundaries is critical for understanding changes in materials during things like corrosion, creep and precipitation. Earlier this month Professor David Srolovitz came to Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) to give the 215th lecture in the SUSTech Lecture Series. He spoke on the topic of “Grain Boundary Dynamics: A Unified Perspective.” Professor Wang Xianglin from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering presided over the lecture.

Gong Mingli arrived at SUSTech in the autumn of 2015 and struggled in the same way that many of her peers did. She didn’t have good grades in her freshman year, in part due to her lack of a clear goal. She found inspiration in the second half of her freshman year after listening to a lecture by Professor Cheng Xin from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Finally, she decided to change her ways of learning, as she knew she had to study hard in order to provide more choices for her future development.

Professor Cheng Xin is the Head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Apart from many outstanding scientific achievements he achieved, he paid a lot of time and energy in university affairs. At the SUSTech’s 2018 Teachers’Day Ceremony, Cheng Xin won the Distinguished Service Award.

Professor Lu Zhouguang from the Department of Materials Science at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has been elected as the Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).

The Global Scientist Interdisciplinary Forum at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) is an important conference for talent recruitment.

Chengdu was the host city for the National Public Entrepreneurship Innovation Week from October 9 to 15. The afternoon of October 11th saw the announcement of the First "Creative Technologies" Disruptive Innovation List jointly. This national list was sponsored by 13 enterprises and institutions including Tencent, Alibaba, Baidu, and Xinhuanet.

Associate Professor Liang Yongye is deeply focused on his work in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. For the recent award of the 2018 Junior Faculty conferred by Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Liang Yongye said that this is an affirmation and encouragement for his work and will inspire him to do better research and teaching in the future.

SUSTech’s Teachers’ Day Awards Ceremony were held in the Runyang Gymnasium on September 10. Numerous awards were handed out to outstanding instructors, mentors, and administrators from across SUSTech.
