July 12’s update of Essential Science Indicators (ESI) ranking saw SUSTech make its debut. Both its chemistry and material science majors were ranked within the top 1% of such majors in the world. SUSTech’s appearance on the list is an honor given its youth. Most universities require an evaluation of over ten years of publications. However, SUSTech’s debut high on the list comes just seven years after its establishment in 2011.
Materials Science Ranking
SUSTech Chemistry researchers have published 630 ESI papers which have been cited 7,687 times (12.20 times per article on average). Similarly, its counterparts in the Material Sciences have published 465 ESI papers that have been cited 5,302 times (11.40 times per article on average). Moreover, the Category Normalized Citation Impact of SUSTech’s chemistry and materials sciences majors are 1.93 and 1.97 respectively, meaning the quality of these academic papers are near twice the world average.
Essential Science Indicators is a unique compilation of performance statistics and trends extrapolated from counts of articles published in scholarly journals and the citations to those articles. It reveals emerging science trends as well as influential individuals, institutions, papers, journals, and countries in specific fields of research. With science trend statistics drawn from more than 12 million articles in more than 12,000 journals from around the world, Essential Science Indicators delivers the in-depth coverage needed to effectively analyze and benchmark research performance, identify significant trends, rank top performers, and evaluate potential employees and collaborators.
