Two SUSTech scientists acknowledged as 2018 Global Highly Cited Researchers

Last week, two scientists from Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) were recognized as Global Highly Cited Researchers in 2018, in a ceremony held at Shenzhen University.

Professor Wang Haijiang from the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering (MEE) and Professor Liang Yongzhen from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) both attended the ceremony to receive their awards.

The Global Highly Cited Researchers awards have taken place since 2014 and aim to appreciate the most influential scientific researchers across multiple fields. 482 scientists across mainland China were honored out of 6079 from around the world. The list focuses on contemporary research achievement: only highly cited papers in science and social sciences journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection during the 11-year period 2006-2016 were surveyed. Highly cited papers are defined as those that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year.

Professor Wang Haijiang is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. He has spent 20 years researching fuel cell and has published 180 academic papers. They have received more than 17,000 citations in SCI with an H-index of 54. He has 5 international invention patents to his name, and 15 monographs. Between 2014 and 2018, he was selected as a “highly cited researchers” by Clarivate Analytics.

Professor Liang Yongye focuses on functional molecular design and synthesis, collaborative characterization and application exploration, and the development of advanced molecular functional materials. He has published more than 100 papers, which have been cited more than 29,000 times with an H-index of 50. He also has two monographs. Between 2016 and 2018, he was selected as a “global highly cited researcher” by Clarivate Analytics and a “China’s Most Cited Researcher” by Elsevier.
